Developing a coordinated BIM model for a community center and commercial building in UK
Project Objective
To develop coordinated Architectural, Structural and MEP BIM models for St. Andrews which is a community center and commercial building in the United Kingdom. It was an end-to-end preconstruction project.
Client Summary
The client is an established contractor in London with a proven track record of accomplishing prestigious projects all across UK.
Project Summary
This project is a commercial building and community center with 8 floors and 1 basement + mezzanine. We had completed the project in 3 phases:
Developing Architectural, Structural and MEP models
Clash Detection and BIM Coordination
MEP Installation Drawings
The client has provided us with CAD files and pdfs for developing the models. We developed the BIM models in Revit at LOD 350. Additionally, the MEP model was created in a manner so that it can be utilized by the client for onsite installations of MEP components. We created customized Revit families wherever necessary. The entire project was a 900-hour project and was delivered within 30 working days.
Project Deliverables
Architectural, Structural and MEP 3D model
Clash Report & Navisworks model
Coordinated BIM model
MEP Installation Drawings
Challenges
Accomplishing the 900-hour project in a span of 30 working days was achieved by assigning multiple resources to the project.
Inputs provided by the client were inadequate to develop the models. We had to make a lot of assumptions and raise several RFIs to complete the modeling. We also suggested certain design changes which were accepted by the client.
As the inputs were provided in phases, it resulted in some amount of rework. Tesla successfully completed the work without delaying the turnaround time.
