To prepare a Revit BIM model for a bridge based on the point cloud data provided
Client Summary
Tesla carried out this project for a well-established survey firm in Ireland.
Project Summary
The scope of this project was to carry out Point Cloud to BIM modelling for an existing bridge in Ireland. The main purpose of the job was to put a boardwalk fixed to the side of the bridge, and therefore modelling all significant features along the side of the bridge precisely was critical to the project.
We had to model
Roads
Sidewalks
Curbs
Topography
Arches
Abutment
Pier
Parapet Wall
Railings
Under bridge site
Staircases
Ramps
Railings
Key stones
Light poles
Electrical poles
Traffic lights
Pipes
Wirings
The client had provided us with the point cloud data along with the photographs for the bridge. The final output was delivered as a 3D Revit model.
Project Deliverables
3D Revit model of the bridge
Challenges
The biggest challenge in this project was to create an undulated road of the bridge. It had several curves and undulations which had to be captured accurately in order to match the actual end points of the bridge.
There was a road and a sidewalk on the bridge which was connected by a kerb. The road and sidewalks had different curves and undulations. Creating this kerb was very complicated as we had to create separate kerb for all changes in the curves of the road as well as the sidewalk.
Creating the bridge topography was challenging because of the software limitation. We created it with our knowledge and rich experience in executing complex projects.
