Project Summary

This was a project to renovate an existing villa wherein our scope of the project was to create architectural and structural BIM model of LOD 300 from pdfs. The purpose of modeling was to get an idea about the as-built construction, reduce demolition parts (i.e. retain some portion of the existing building), and increasing utility areas by reconstructing in unused spaces.

The client had provided us with Floor Plans and 1 Building Section. The final output was delivered as a Revit model.

Project Deliverables

Architectural and Structural Revit models of LOD 300

Challenges
  • The project site was undulated i.e. the building was situated on a slope. We had to assume the levels using Google Maps, images and with reference to the levels of ground floor.
  • We had the design drawing as the input. The site had meanwhile undergone a number of renovations and we were availed with the images of this renovated site. We had to assume the placement of elements as per the images which was a tedious task.
  • Since the client was from Spain, all the inputs that we had received were in Spanish, the families that we created and the output was also in Spanish. We used Google translate and other tools for translating everything into English.
  • Grids were not provided in the input, so we had created grids as per the structural columns and beams.
